Rationale
After deciding on a topic the second thing I wanted to know was, just how serious the problem of obesity was and what could I so as a parent in protecting my child from becoming overweight. I did research on the internet as well as go to the public library to find further information on the subject of teen obesity. The research conducted turned out to be very helpful in writing the annotated bibliography. Such articles were, “Health Risks, Diagnosis and Treatment, Over Weight Teens and Kids; Advice For Parents, and Preventing And Treatment of Over Weight In Children. My search stems from what causes obesity, what an individual could do to correct or solve the problem of obesity. I found many articles on prevention of obesity, includes observing food portions of those who are over weight, physical activity is also encouraged, as well as parents getting involved in the food program in the public schools.
Problems I had with the research were that there was not as much information available at the library as there were on the internet and data bases. None the less the information obtained was truly helpful to my paper. The other problem I encountered was finding information on encouraging students in the participation of physical education. I wanted to know what part do the teachers play in encouraging children to participate and how many over weight children participate in physical activity? I came to a conclusion that I would not be able to have these questions answered by looking on the internet or going to the library. Fortunately I know a person who is a physical education teacher at a middle school, and she able to give some in sight to the questions I wanted answered. These questions will be introduced in the final paper.
My plan is to organize the bibliography by order of importance. First I will attempt to give the definition of obesity, what causes it, the health problems associated with being over weight lastly, the prevention of obesity. If this does not go according to plan the organization will be placed in the final paper. Based on the research conducted, I’ve come to the conclusion, that obesity and being over weight is a serious problem in the United States amongst teens and children. The main cause is due to the lack of healthy nutrition. I have also learned that steps are being taken to solve the problem in schools. Getting children to participate in physical activity early, starting in grade school and taking out the soda machines, serving healthier breakfast and lunches as well as snacks are well on there way in being introduced in the
